FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Yes. Our soaps qualify as “glycerin soaps,” because glycerin accounts for 9-10% of the final product. When whole oils are made into soap via saponification, the resultant products of this reaction are soap and glycerin. This is the case whether we’re talking about bar soap saponification or liquid soap saponification. Commercial soap makers remove this glycerin for sale or retain trace amounts so they can include it on their labels, but this is very different from keeping it all. We show this by using the phrase “with retained glycerin” on the common language version of our ingredient labels.
Many people think of “glycerin soap” bars as being transparent. But a good glycerin-rich bar soap does not need to be clear. Although transparent bar soap contains added glycerin, this is not what makes them clear. To produce their transparency, these “glycerin soaps” contain a sugar-alcohol compound that can dry your skin.
